Many people who try to grow grapes tend to fail miserably and usually after investing quite a bit in the space, tools, grape plants and many other things needed when growing grapes. At times it is simply a stroke of bad luck caused either by a change in weather or some other unavoidable circumstance but sometimes this happens simply as a result of poor information when picking the particular grapes for growing. There are literally hundreds of species of grapes and walking into a store and picking any particular plant off the shelf just won't cut it.

Picking the wrong grapes can give you one of two undesirable results, either the plant will fail to grow properly and maybe fail to grow at all or the plant could grow excellently but the eventual fruit will fail to produce the desired products. Avoiding this means you have to select grapes that will be able to accommodate both these scenarios meaning it will have to flourish and also to give you a plant that can be put into the use you had in mind.

Since the use of grapes in making of wine is the most application of the fruit and also the one that stretches furthest into history, grapes are mostly classified according to the kind of wine that they produce. Thus there are red grapes such as Abouriou, Gaglioppo, Pignolo and Pinotage. Then there are grapes of the white variety for example Albillo, Grecanico, Pigato and Picolit. There are also other classes of grapes including those that are most appropriate for eating, known as table grape and those that are best for raisins, currants and sultanas. This means that when picking a grape variety to grow, you must always exactly what will be made of the product.

When it comes to considering conditions for grapes, you must pick one of two options and this is either to pick a grape variety that will thrive in the environment where your garden is or pick any variety but provide all the appropriate conditions for its growth in your garden. The first option is of course easier since you only have to work with what you've got but it will limit your choices of grape varieties because probably not all will thrive in that same condition. The second option when dealing with grapes is the best but will come with considerably more expense as you may have to go as far as bringing in the soil best for the grapes from another location among other things and all this will need money.

So when picking grapes for growing always work with what will give you the best results otherwise you will risk getting no results. This will mean that many a time you will have to compromise either on what you plan to do with the grapes or how much you want to spend growing the grapes.
